How can I apply for Personal Jewelry Insurance?

There are three easy ways to insure your jewelry with Jewelers Mutual Insurance:

1. Apply online. (U.S. and Canadian residents)

Submit your online application, payment preference, and a copy of the insurance evaluation/appraisal (completed within the last 18 months), provided by your jeweler.

E-mail, mail, or fax us your evaluation or appraisal for each piece of jewelry you wish to insure within 10 days of submitting your application.* Your appraisal should note the current retail value, along with any applicable sales tax.

If the total value of all the items is $50,000 or more, you may complete our online application; however, please note that Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company requires pre-approval for all policies with a total value of $50,000 or more. An underwriter will contact you within two business days with your quote or you may contact us at 888-884-2424 to obtain additional information.

*Please note: For us to properly insure your jewelry, it is imperative that you send your appraisal or evaluation during this timeframe. If we don't receive this information, we may be forced to decline your application.

2. Download an application. (U.S. residents only)

You will need Adobe Acrobat to download this PDF of our application.

Mail your completed application, along with a check or credit card information, to Jewelers Mutual. Please enclose an evaluation or appraisal (completed within the last 18 months) for every item you wish to insure, noting its current retail value, along with any applicable sales tax.

Coverage begins on the postmark date stamped on the envelope, once all necessary items are received.*

If the total value of all the items is $50,000 or more, you may complete our application; however, please note that Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company requires pre-approval for all policies with a total value of $50,000 or more. An underwriter will contact you within two business days with your quote or you may contact us at 888-884-2424 to obtain additional information.

*Please note: For us to properly insure your jewelry, it is imperative that, along with your application, you enclose an evaluation or appraisal (dated within the last 18 months) for every item you wish to insure. If we don't receive this information, we may be forced to decline your application.

3. Request an application from your jeweler. (U.S. residents only)

Ask your jeweler for Jewelers Mutual's Personal Jewelry Insurance application and rate card. Also ask your jeweler for an insurance evaluation/appraisal for the items you wish to insure. Mail us your completed application and the required evaluation/appraisals (dated within the last 18 months).

How are insurance rates determined?

Insurance rates are based on two basic criteria:

1. The retail replacement value of the item, and

2. Our historical losses for the state/province or county in which the person possessing the jewelry resides. For example, if a mother purchased a necklace for her daughter, the rate would be based on the daughter's state and county of residence.

What is covered under this policy?

Our Personal Jewelry Insurance is a repair or replacement policy that provides coverage for:

  • loss,
  • theft,
  • mysterious disappearance, and
  • damage.

We accept American Express, MasterCard, and VISA. U.S. residents may also pay with money orders, checks, and Discover credit cards.

Please include your name, policy number, and both old and new addresses.

What do I do if I have a loss?

If your insured jewelry is damaged, lost or stolen, you can report your claim through our Web site. If you prefer, you can call Jewelers Mutual at 888-884-2424 and a Personal Jewelry Insurance claim representative will give you complete instructions.

In addition, if your jewelry was stolen or you suspect it was stolen, you should report it to the police.

In most instances, you will return to the jeweler who appraised your jewelry and/or performs your periodic inspections to have the jewelry repaired or replaced.

How do I delete a piece of jewelry from my policy?

To delete an item from your policy, mail or fax (800-781-0023) a request explaining that you want a certain piece of jewelry taken off your policy. Please reference the jewelry item number in your request.

We will delete the item from your policy on the postmark date stamped on the envelope or the date of your faxed request. You will receive an amended declaration page via U.S. mail, along with a refund in premium, if applicable.
