Smart Jewelry That Won’t Ruin Your Outfit

on Feb 5, 2016 11:01 AM

Scroll through your Facebook or Instagram feed and you won’t get far without seeing something about wearable technology.

According to Gartner Inc., an information technology and research advisory firm, wearable purchases are set to increase 16% in 2016, with smartwatches specifically predicted to increase a whopping 66%.

Smart jewelry has become a lifestyle trend. But, if your lifestyle happens to include a fashion-forward workplace, a litany of selfies for your Instagram followers, or simply a love of fashion and looking your best, some of the early adopter wearables aren't good enough.

Check out these smart jewelry options, old and new, that will be worthy of your #OutfitOfTheDay pic.

For Counting Steps

Sometimes you want to get your steps in without looking like you’re headed to the gym. These four fitness trackers will complement your outfit, not ruin it.

Fitbit Alta

Newcomer alert! Fitbit just released their eighth wearable tracker, Fitbit Alta.

This sleek tracker has interchangeable band options in silicone, leather and metal. With all those options, you can definitely coordinate with whatever you’re wearing, and even switch it up throughout the day.

Fitbit Alta

The Alta tracks activity, including reminders to move and SmartTrack Auto Exercise Recognition, serves up call, text and calendar alerts, automatically tracks your sleep, and features a display you can toggle with a tap.

Alta Gold and Tory Burch Collections are also coming soon!

Already have a Fitbit Flex and not ready to invest in a new tracker? Upgrade yours with a Tory Burch band.

The Tory Burch Collection now has twenty styles to pick from. From printed silicone bands to metal pendants and bracelets, there’s something for every style.

Misfit Shine

Hailed for its versatility, the Misfit Shine can be worn many different ways – and we’re not talking just on different body parts. This smart jewelry can be worn underwater!

Misfit Shine

This baby is waterproof up to 50M and its coin cell battery never needs a charge. Those are two pretty redeeming qualities if you’re annoyed taking off that tracker every time you swim or shower and every few days when it needs a charge.

Leaf

Want to know more about your health than just your physical activity? Bellabeat’s Leaf is where it’s at.

With leaf you can monitor your sleep, log your period, analyze your breathing and track your activity – giving you a more holistic big-picture view of your health.

LEAF

Plus, it’s really pretty! With its leaf-designed motif as the centerpiece, this smart jewelry can be worn as a clip, bracelet or necklace. You also get to choose between a silver leaf with a beige recyclable American ashwood background and a rose gold leaf with a beautiful Black wood background.

For Keeping You Safe

There have been a handful of Kickstarter campaigns aimed at funding smart jewelry that can help women stay safe. While many have fizzled out pre-production, one is standing strong as an industry leader in this category.

CUFF

CUFF is one of a small, but growing, category of smart jewelry that aims to help keep you safe.

With the touch of a button, CUFF will alert your pre-selected family and friends that you’re in trouble. It will send them your location and the locations of your other emergency contacts so they can coordinate to get help to you as fast as possible.

CUFF Deluxe Package

Beyond safety, CUFF also pushes notifications from your phone so you can be in the know without having your phone directly on you.

An updated version of CUFF is coming soon that will also track your activity. A trifecta of functionality!

For Pushing Notifications

In this category, smartwatches meet jewelry. Keep up with your communication needs without being rude with discreet, customized notifications from one of these notification pushing pieces of smart jewelry.

Ringly

Love a cocktail ring more so than a bracelet? Check out Ringly – a statement-making connected ring featuring semi-precious stones.

Ringly

Ringly stands out because it interfaces with over 80 different apps, allowing you to truly customize which notifications push through to your ring. You choose which types of notifications you’d like, and assign a different vibration pattern and ambient light to each one.

Doesn’t get much more subtle than that!

Altruis

Altruis is a line of smart jewelry that lets you interchange its technology between a ring, bracelet or pendant.

While it doesn’t connect with as many apps as Ringly, it has a cool feature that allows you to use word-based filtering via its “Smart Words” function. So, if someone texts you with the word “work” in it, that could come through automatically.

Altruis

Altruis is also unique in that it markets itself as a way to create a better relationship with your smartphone. By setting rules and filters to allow only important notifications through, you can keep your phone out of sight and out of mind for more of the day. Sounds good to us!

MICA

My Intelligent Communication Accessory (MICA) may be the best marriage of functionality and beauty.

This luxury smart bracelet is designed by Opening Ceremony and engineered by Intel, allowing each company to shine in its respective category.

MICA

Opening Ceremony crafted this bracelet with premium finishes, an 18K gold coating, and a curved sapphire glass touchscreen display. One design option features black water snake skin, pearls from China, and lapis stones from Madagascar. The other showcases white water snake skin, tiger’s eye from South Africa, and obsidian from Russia.

On the functionality side, Intel partnered with Refinery 29 to provide some of the content available directly on the touchscreen. R29 provides a fashion and a horoscope app to complement Intel’s messaging, calendar, and What’s Near Me functionalities.

MICA is very well thought out and a true luxury piece of smart jewelry.

There’s a piece of smart jewelry out there for everyone these days – and there are only going to be more developments going forward.

The strap fits beautifully, but I've had it less than 2 months and the light colour of the pink is not wearing well. The strap has already become quite discoloured and dirty looking at the edges and I now wish I had bought a darker colour. So i bought and it worked well.
