Where to Keep the Engagement Ring Before Proposing

Where to Keep the Engagement Ring Before Proposing

You did it. You decided to propose.

You researched the 4Cs; you asked your significant other's parents for their blessing, and you made one of the biggest purchases of your life - the engagement ring.

For many, the engagement ring is one of the most expensive purchases you encounter after a home or a vehicle. It's highly unlikely that you'll misplace an entire building or a car, but that tiny, precious ring might be a little nerve-wracking to keep track of. Not sure where to keep the engagement ring before you propose? Read on to learn the two best options.

Where to Keep the Engagement Ring Before Proposing

While it might be instinctive to hide the ring in your sock drawer or the glove compartment of your car, these are not safe options. Your two safest options are:

1. Leave it With Your Jeweler - Ask the jeweler who sold you the ring if they let customers leave their already-purchased rings in their possession until you're ready to propose.

If they do, ask if the ring will be covered under their business insurance policy while it's in their possession. If not, consider a personal jewelry insurance policy right away.

2. Rent a Safe-Deposit Box - A safe-deposit box at your bank is probably the absolute safest choice you can make for storing an engagement ring.

It's not going to get discovered by your significant other or accidentally misplaced, and probably not stolen either. (Although there is always that risk, so insure that ring!)

PRO TIP: If you plan to propose on vacation, do not hand your bag to any hotel or restaurant staff, and don't leave it unattended in a car or suitcase. Keep the ring with you at all times.

While you may be extremely prepared and mindful of keeping the ring safe, mistakes do happen. A Jewelers Mutual policy provides repair or replacement coverage for any loss, damage, theft or disappearances wherever your travels take you, worldwide.
