Watch Collection Insurance

What does watch collection insurance cover?
You can trace it back - you left your watch in a public bathroom. You can point to the moment it went missing, and you're covered.
Luxury watch theft is becoming more common. Scary, we know. Luxury watch insurance can protect you from financial loss in the event your watch is stolen, so you can replace your timepiece quickly.
Shattered crystals, broken bracelets, watch movement issues. Accidents and mechanical mishaps are an occasional part of life for watch collectors. We cover those setbacks, so you can wear your watches with confidence.
Your watch goes missing and you have no clue how or when it happened. That’s covered too.*
Floods, hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes. If a natural disaster damages your watch collection, we’re here to make you whole again.
Drive, fly, and sail with confidence. You’re covered globally while traveling.
For watch repair shipments, coverage applies when you use USPS Registered Mail, USPS Priority Mail Express, FedEx, or UPS (and a receipt is required).
High-end watch values fluctuate. If your appraisal is over two years old at renewal, we automatically adjust coverage limits every two years to help keep up with rising watch values.**
Loss or damage of items due to war or military action, rodent and pest infestation, intentional actions or voluntary parting, deterioration, resizing, cleaning and inspections.
How Much is Watch Insurance?
Luxury watch insurance rates begin at just 1-2% of the watch’s total value annually. Factors that can influence your premium include:
Watch Value
Higher-value pieces typically have higher premiums because they cost more to replace. We also insure each piece separately, so each piece has its own premium cost.
Deductible Choice
A higher deductible lowers the premium, while a lower deductible increases it.
Location
Rates vary based on your location, factoring in crime rates, theft risk, and local insurance regulations.
Discounts
You may qualify for discounts if you have an alarm system or store your watches in a safe or vault.
The Importance of Watch Appraisals
Watch prices and values regularly fluctuate, often significantly. And a watch's appraised value sometimes exceeds its retail price (example: the watch you bought for $10,000 five years ago may be valued at $30,000 today due to its rarity or popularity in the market). That’s why getting your watch or collection appraised at least every two years is crucial to help maintain the right coverage in case of damage or loss.
Does Homeowners Insurance cover my watches?
Likely not to the extent you need it to. Homeowners policies typically don’t provide comprehensive coverage for watches—and many standard homeowners policies don’t even cover common risks for watches, including loss and damage. So if your watch flies off your wrist while you’re bungee jumping, a standard homeowners policy may not fully reimburse you for the loss. With a Jewelers Mutual policy, you can feel secure in knowing that if something happens to your timepiece, we have your back.

Insurance vs. Warranties
Luxury or high-end watch insurance is not the same as a warranty. Your watch’s warranty protects you in the event that you discover a manufacturing flaw or defect (and usually only for a set period of time). A Jewelers Mutual watch insurance policy protects you against the mishaps that guarantees don’t cover: loss, theft, and accidental damage.
How to Insure Your Watch: Step by Step Guide
Easily File a Claim
If something happens to your watch, submit a claim and we’ll handle the repair or replacement with your preferred jeweler or watch seller. If applicable, you’ll pay your deductible directly to your jeweler or watch seller when you pick up your timepiece.
Enjoy Your Watches
With your policy in place, wear your watches with confidence—wherever your path takes you. Set up your personal portal to make payments, set up auto-pay, or file claims.
Pay Your Premium
Once approved, pay your premium for your first year of coverage. It’s that simple.
Apply For Coverage
Provide details about yourself, your watches, and any other wearers. For the most accurate rate, include all your watches and any additional jewelry you’d like to protect. All applications are subject to underwriting review, and additional information may be requested.
Collect Your Documentation
Having your watch appraised every two years will make it easier in the event of a claim, when an appraisal is required.
Estimate Your Rate
The sooner you get your watch insured, the more confident you’ll feel wearing it anywhere and everywhere. Get your personalized rate in minutes by telling us what type of watch you have and where you live.

Protecting Your Watch
High-end watches are so skillfully fabricated, they can be enjoyed by generations if you protect and care for them properly. Here’s our best advice for keeping your watches safe and secure.
There’s no safer spot for a luxury timepiece than a safe or watch box shielded from sunlight, temperature, and humidity (to prevent damage to the watches inside).
Clean your watches regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Refer to your manual or seek professional advice for a more comprehensive cleaning.
Rotate your watches to minimize wear and tear and extend their life, luster, and precision.
Avoid exposing your watch to unnecessary impacts or exposure to harmful or harsh elements.
The high-end watch market moves fast, with values constantly shifting due to factors like demand and rarity. Regular appraisals help keep your coverage in line with market trends, reducing the risk of your watch being insured for less than its current value.
