Summary

A heartfelt story shows how a clever flashlight trick helped recover a lost diamond pendant, turning panic into relief.
  • A cherished diamond gift went missing, sparking a frantic search.
  • A Jewelers Mutual expert suggested using a flashlight in a dark room.
  • The pendant was found by spotting its sparkle from the back of a closet

Imagine looking at your diamond ring only to discover that the center stone is missing, or you open your jewelry box to get that special diamond pendant and it’s gone.

The experts at Jewelers Mutual have a great tip for finding lost diamonds and diamond jewelry.

Searching for a diamond lost could be like finding a needle in a hay stack.

Years ago, a Jewelers Mutual employee's husband surprised her with a designer diamond pendant for one of those “significant” birthdays. It was the first really nice jewelry he had given her since her engagement ring, and she adored it. The following Christmas, he added matching diamond earrings.

When the employee discovered the pendant was “MIA," she tore apart her bedroom looking for the treasure. Nothing.

One of the claims experts at Jewelers Mutual suggested that she search with a flashlight. A diamond’s exceptional refractive index means that it will reflect light like a mirror when light hits it. Just turn off the lights and close the shades.

She crawled around on my hands and knees shining the flashlight under the bed, behind the door, and in the corners. Finally, from the back of her closet, a beacon of light gave away the pendant’s hiding place.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, grab a flashlight and turn that frown upside down. You just might end up with a diamond found.

Share your jewelry “lost and found” story.
